ABOUT EQUANIMITY YOGA

ABOUT ME

I am on maternity leave until January 2024.

I am Jenna Richards, yogini, mum and digital marketer! I started Equanimity Yoga in 2016 to bring yoga to the residents of Exwick, Exeter. I offer a holistic approach to Yoga inspired by my own yoga journey which saw the practice transform me and my life. I went from being a wrung-out stress-head who was constantly unwell to someone who is (mostly!) welcoming of life’s adventures and challenges in their varied and insightful forms.

I have been practising Yoga for about 15 years and teaching since 2015. My personal experience has taught me that yoga can subtly bring about positive change in all areas of your life. Yoga isn’t about touching your toes, it is about calming the mind and allowing you to appreciate that the whole universe is intimately interconnected.

I began by attending occasional classes and workshops, then I stepped into an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga class and I immediately knew I’d discovered the style of yoga that inspired and resonated with me. I was drawn to the physicality of the sequence, which alongside the breath focus transformed the practice into a moving meditation where body, breath and mind were intimately connected.

In recent years, having had a baby and navigating the lifestyle changes of pregnancy and mummying, I have discovered a softer, more feminine, yoga that is about letting go of structure and rigidity and finding ways of incorporating my practice into everyday life.

Yoga constantly allows me to unpeal the layers of who I am, and who I think I am, as I delve deeper and deeper into the spiritual and philosophical side of yoga. Once you start to really study yoga the subject grows and grows, Yoga isn’t something you do for an hour once a week, it is a guiding philosophy and a lifestyle.

  • positive review  I thoroughly enjoyed going to the Hatha Yoga sessions on a Wednesday.. lovely relaxing cosy atmosphere and lots of fun too❤️?‍♀️ so much so have just booked for the next 4 classes and another class in December.. Jenna is a lovely teacher not too serious in her approach and you really feel at ease with her.. I would thoroughly recommend her classes ?

positive review  Yoga with Jenna got me through some really tough times over the last few years - she is an excellent teacher from whom I learned the importance of breathing, mindfulness and also built strength and flexibility I never knew I could push for. I could barely bend my hands past my knees 2 years ago, now I can plant them firmly on the floor and get my heels to the ground in downward dog 🙂 An excellent teacher!

positive review  i have only started yoga about ten weeks ago. I attend an evening class, i always thought yoga was not for me however with suffering from lower back pain i gave it a try now i'm totally hooked, Jenna took on board my weaknesses and supported me throughout. I would recommend yoga to anyone.

  • positive review  I've never practised any yoga before Jenna offered a lunchtime class, about a year ago now. I now go to that and one of her Ashtanga Vinyasa evening courses and I have to say there has not been a session I haven't enjoyed. Lunchtimes are more about relaxation in the middle of a work day. if nothing else it takes me away from my desk for a period both bodily and spiritually! There's always a different theme and we have even practised outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Jenna's Astanga class is more energetic but I've never felt pressured to do anything, she provides advice and guidance and the right environment ( and any necessary equipment, by the way ). Jenna is clearly very enthusiastic about her subject, which is contagious, and is always warm and welcoming to all the different people I've met in her sessions.

positive review  I had never done any yoga before so was a complete novice when I started Jenna's classes at the beginning of the year. As they are small group sizes you get some one to one attention which is fantastic i especially enjoy the yoga Nidra. I come home feeling so relaxed and with more energy. Now I'm completely hooked they have been fantastic courses! Can't wait for my next course to start ??x
