Welcome to Equanimity Yoga

HATHA YOGA

The Equanimity Yoga Hatha Yoga classes are suitable for all bodies and cultivate the mind-body connection with a focus on moving with the breath. These classes are often themed, focusing on strengthening and releasing body parts such as backs and shoulders, or they explore elements of yoga theory and philosophy such as the Yamas and Niyamas or Chakras.

Hatha Yoga classes usually begin with a short breathing practice allowing you to leave the stresses and strains of the day behind you. We then move into a physical (asana) practice working on certain elements of the body and mind to leave you feeling revitalised and restored. Classes end with pranayama (breath work) or meditation followed by relaxation or a short Yoga Nidra.

YOGA NIDRA

Yoga Nidra, also known as ‘yogic sleep’, takes you into a deeply meditative state that induces full-body relaxation. Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping – a liminal space. It is practised lying or sitting and is the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate with a calming and balancing class.
Yoga Nidra sessions begin by finding your perfect relaxation position often supported by props (bolsters, pillows blankets and eye bags). You are then guided into a state of deep where you become increasingly aware of your inner world by mentally following verbal instructions.

“Yoga Nidra is a great treasure, a potent meditative resource for healing, insight, and empowerment. It’s a state of consciousness in which we are invited to re-encounter the essential truth of who we really are. Yoga Nidra provides us with the opportunity to experience deep freedom. It welcomes us all home to ourselves.” Dr Uma Dinsmore-Tuli Co-Founder of the Yoga Nidra Network

ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA

Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is a strong, physical, breath-focused practice that cleanses the body through increased circulation and perspiration. The set sequence becomes a moving meditation that creates a vibrantly healthy body and mind.

Ashtanga Yoga classes flow through a selection of poses (asana) from first and second series. An accompanying focus on Breath (Ujjayi), Bandha (energy locks) and Dristi (gaze) allows you to turn your focus inwards and experience the meditative effects of breath and body becoming one.

PRIVATE YOGA (1:1 YOGA)

Yoga was traditionally taught one-on-one and it’s the perfect way to address your personal needs and intentions, and really make your yoga practice work for you.

One-to-one classes begin with me finding out a little bit about you, your goals, your lifestyle and what you would like to achieve through your private yoga sessions. I then work with you to design a practice to help you achieve your goals through a combination of one-to-one yoga and home practice.

You can also share a class with friendS or family members (maximum five per group).

Classes are £50 per hour or I give discounts for block bookings.

CORPORATE YOGA

Corporate Yoga for employees could improve the productivity of your workforce and reduce sick days. Research for the Health Work and Wellbeing Executive has shown a link between wellness programmes in the workplace and improved business key performance indicators.

Equanimity Yoga Corporate classes offer a rejuvenating, breath-focused practice that targets key muscle groups and gives people time away from their work-station to relax and gently release stress and tension from body and mind.

classes are suitable for all bodies and all equipment can be provided. Session can be run in person or via Zoom.

Classes are £60 per hour plus travelling expenses if you are more than 5 miles from central Exeter.

WOMEN’S YOGA (YONI SHAKTI)

Yoni Shakti can be translated as source power or Womb/Women’s Yoga. It was developed to help us all deepen our understanding of the feminine roots of Yoga practice. It is suitable for all women and offers nurturing practices that can guide us at any stage in our life cycle helping us develop a connection with our feminine intuitive wisdom by honouring the womb as a physical organ, a symbol of our connection with mother consciousness and the source of our deep inner knowing.

“Yoni Shakti supports the practice of yoga that honours and respects femininity, womb cycles and the deep cyclical wisdom of women’s cycles. This respectful honouring of women’s cycles is also an honouring of our mother, the earth, so womb yoga practice can be seen as a radical practice of deep ecology.” – Dr Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, Author of Yoni Shakti

YOGA FOR AUTISM AND ADHD

Many children (and adults) with Autism are often in a heightened state of stress or reactivity. Yoga for Autism helps reduce this by taking us to a place of calm where we are better able to interact with the world around us.

Autistic people can be disconnected from their bodies and/or the world around them. This compromises their feedback systems and they often use up their reserves of ‘coping chemicals’ early in the day leaving the sympathetic nervous system on ‘red alert’. Yoga switches on the parasympathetic nervous system allowing the body to digest food and produce the necessary coping hormones.

Aims and benefits of Yoga for autistic children include:

  • Improved motor planning and control
  • Improved self-awareness: both body and mind
  • Better ability to self-regulate behaviours
  • Development of balance and the ability to relax and release tension, fear and frustration
  • Improved resilience and a reduced stress reaction
  • Improved immune function
  • Better quality and quantity of sleep
  • Enhanced sense of emotional balance

All sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the individual. I trained in Yoga for Autism and ADHD with the Special Yoga Foundation.

Classes are £50 per hour or I give discounts for block bookings.

positive review  Yoga with Jenna got me through some really tough times over the last few years - she is an excellent teacher from whom I learned the importance of breathing, mindfulness and also built strength and flexibility I never knew I could push for. I could barely bend my hands past my knees 2 years ago, now I can plant them firmly on the floor and get my heels to the ground in downward dog 🙂 An excellent teacher!

positive review  I had never done any yoga before so was a complete novice when I started Jenna's classes at the beginning of the year. As they are small group sizes you get some one to one attention which is fantastic i especially enjoy the yoga Nidra. I come home feeling so relaxed and with more energy. Now I'm completely hooked they have been fantastic courses! Can't wait for my next course to start ??x

positive review  I've never practised any yoga before Jenna offered a lunchtime class, about a year ago now. I now go to that and one of her Ashtanga Vinyasa evening courses and I have to say there has not been a session I haven't enjoyed. Lunchtimes are more about relaxation in the middle of a work day. if nothing else it takes me away from my desk for a period both bodily and spiritually! There's always a different theme and we have even practised outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Jenna's Astanga class is more energetic but I've never felt pressured to do anything, she provides advice and guidance and the right environment ( and any necessary equipment, by the way ). Jenna is clearly very enthusiastic about her subject, which is contagious, and is always warm and welcoming to all the different people I've met in her sessions.
