Hatha Yoga encompasses many different forms of Yoga practice. Any yoga class that incudes postures (asana), breath (pranayama) and meditation can be classed Hatha Yoga.
The Equanimity Yoga Hatha Yoga classes are often slower moving than the more dynamic Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga classes but they still maintain a focus on moving with the breath. Often the Hatha Yoga courses are themed and focus on different parts of the body, such as backs and shoulders, or explore elements of yoga philosophy such as the Yamas and Niyamas.
Hatha Yoga is the most commonly practiced form of yoga in the West. It is a great place for beginners to start their practice and explore and yoga as a physical practice and a philosophy.
The Hatha Yoga classes begin with a short breathing practice allowing you to arrive in the yoga space and leave the stresses and strains of the day behind you. We then move into a physical (asana) practice which works on certain elements of the body and mind to leave you feeling revitalised and restored. Classes end with pranayama (breath work) or meditation followed by relaxation or a short Yoga Nidra.
